Rolling into 2017 has been an adventure and now I can’t believe how fast this year is going!
Club Rodeo shows are in full swing, broadcasting “live” from Disneyland for the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade, on stage at the Shoreline for the 25th Anniversary Kick Off Party with Lady Antebellum, Kelsey Ballerini and Brett Young, it’s been a whirlwind party with some of the best co-workers in the radio business. It’s a tough act to follow Gary and Julie in the morning but someone’s got to do it and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be in your homes, businesses and vehicles from 9a-2p m-f and 2p-6p sundays on KRTY and 3p-7p m-f on KLIV our sister station playing country gold hits from the 80’s to the 2000’s (and sometimes back to the 50’s!). Indiana Al, his night show and energy level is contagious and Michael Moore and Jenna make our weekends with great music for working around the house and yard!
Favorites activities: Country Concerts, Rodeo’s, BBQ’s with friends, meeting new folks, living the country life in the Hayward Hills among the goats, fox’s, turkeys, walks with the wife, Lake Chabot boating and fishing on day’s off. Being on the air knowing you’re out there!
Favorite foods: Medium well steaks with garlic mashed potatoes, french bread and baked beans (no recipe necessary, just throw it on the BBQ), pizza, jalapeno poppers with cream cheese.
Favorite songs: ANYTHING by George Strait, Merle Haggard, Chris Young, Dwight Yoakum, Lady Antebellum, Aaron Watson, Tim McGraw.
Favorite places: Monterey coast, Santa Cruz, Any Horse Barn or Facility (yes, that smell is like a fine fragrance to a cowboy!), Rodeo’s, Open Spaces, Outdoors…..
General favorites / likes: Energetic and passionate radio people, exciting on air presence, fun interaction with personality. New cowboy hats, wranglers, boots, one can never have enough (hope my wife reads this!). Spontaneous laughter, good jokes, last minute plans for road-trips, bbq’ing in the rain. So much more I can’t think of them all right now!
Not so favorites: Folks set in their ways, no flexibility, living in the past. If you’re country, be proud of it, you need not live in the country, it can be a place in your heart, it’s a tear your eye as you watch old’ glory go by… as Mo Pitney sings in his song “Country”, country can be a state of mind, live it, love it, profess it, just…be real, be country.
In closing, and from the heart, thank you! I’ve been at KRTY since 1999 in many different positions from part time overnights to weekends to weeknights and now mid-day’s, hosting club shows at Club Rodeo, The Saddlerack, and Mavericks just to name a few, stagework at the Shoreline, SAP Center. the Mountain Winery, Villa Montalvo and more…each and every day is an adventure, a chance to share in the fun with you. I couldn’t be any happier doing anything else. Thank you for the support.
Here’s to many more years of great music, contests, laughter and fun in our little community we call Empire Broadcasting KRTY and KLIV!
See ya’ out and about!
